I have often wondered how you people use a square quilt? I've seen pictures of wall hangings, but where else would you use the square ones?

I like the extra width of a square quilt. It prevents the cold draft when it goes over two people and doesn't quite reach.brrrr

I have one on my bed.....and hate it. I'll not make another.
Just me...I like rectangular far better.:)

I love them for baby quilts, but not for adults.

a lap quilt? Seems like it wouldn't matter if a lap quilt was square or rectangular.

I'm making a square quilt for our king sized bed. We have a solid brown duvet for our comforter, and I'm not interested in making a full king sized quilt for our bed right now, so the square quilt will go on top of the duvet, on point, mostly to add decorative color to the room, but also for use on my side, as I tend to get cold more than DH.

I also like a square quilt for outdoor or picnic quilts, or if there's a chance I'll be using it as a table topper. Sometimes I just feel like a square format works better artistically too.

Every quilt (other than rag quilts) I have made so far has been square. I have a queen size bed, 60X80 mattress top, so square works really well. The last one I made was 106 square. What I like is that no matter how the quilt is put on the bed it is right. Easy for a man to straighten the bed, can't say make. LOL Now my sister doesn't like square quilts, she likes rectangle with a top.

I like laying quilt (a little larger than lap size) on point over a plain color
comforter or bedspread. You can change with the mood or seasons.

I've made some square and sometimes I prefer them not to be. Depends on the use. For a lap quilt...I think it's ok and for baby quilts.

A square quilt works really well on a King sized bed as the mattress is almost square to start with. I don't like square quilts on other sized beds unless the square quilt is extra large and that doesn't make the quilt any easier to quilt on my DM. The only advantage is that the quilt wears more evenly and it does make for easy bed making.
