what is the best way to square a quilt after it is quilted ? how do most of you do it ? I need a good way i'm getting to old to crawl around on the floor

I usually clear off the dining room table, and square it up on it. It holds the bulk of the quilt that way.

That's the way I do it too.

I have a large 60X80 table that I use. I square up the corners with a large 12" square ruler and then go out from the corners with my yardstick. I think the most important thing is that you have the entire weight of the quilt on the table you are using, with none hanging off to cause distortion.

I do large ones (queen-king) on the floor.

... if you are getting it LAQ'd, ask your LAQ to do it for you!!!
I don't but many do.

What my LAQ does do, that many don't and I love her for it!! ... is to stitch around the whole edge of the quilt. Has all the layers nicely together and ready to work with. And it seems to make binding easier too!

I take my quilt after I have fmq and put the first corner on my cutting board. I find an element in the quilt ...usually the border...measure and decide what the width should be...then I trim...I do this at each corner and then measure and cut between the corners. I have found this to be remarkably accurate.

I use my carpenters square -- 24" L shape -- that way I get a long straight corner to start.

I have used dinning room table and my cutting table. Also, depending upon the size of the quilt, I will scoot a chair next to the table to set the extra quilt on, so the weight of the quilt will not be pulling it down.
