Both of these quilt designs are exciting to me. As I am a somewhat new quilter what are advantages and disadvantages to these types of quilts? Also, which one might be best to begin with?

Personally, I prefer the Stack and Whack...the designs don't get lost in the overall pattern.

constuction wise they are both pretty close to the same, so i don't think it really matters which one you try first, the fabric selection may vary but either one will teach you good new techniques..

My thoughts exactly... I have made several S&W I have a OBW cut out but haven't had time to get it started.
