To starch or not

Wondering if I should spray starch my layer cake? I'm going to be cutting my layer cake into certain sizes would it help or just leave it alone and cut as is.

I starch...works better if I end up using triangles.

Thank you!

Starch always. If you don't prewash, the moisture from the starch will help with shrinkage, too. I found that out the hard way, so I'd definitely starch first before cutting.

I recently started the practice of starching twice. Got the tip from Sharon Shambler web site. What a difference it really makes in keeping the fabric under control, especially for those bias cuts.

One thing about starch is to let it soak into the fabric for a minute or two before pressing to let it soak into all the fibers.

I make my own starch ( Niagra Liquid) and mix it to a medium blend, according to the directions on the bottle.
peace

I always starch. :)

I always starch heavily for more precise cutting and when I mark the top, the lines wash right out because I'm marking on the starch, not the fabric.:)

I used to not starch layer cakes. Now I heavily starch them. The finished results make the time spent starching layer cakes well worth it. Now I heavily starch all fabric before cutting. It makes piecing so much easier.

I never starch anything. It didn't help much when I did. I can see the purpose for it but it doesn't help me.

I can tell you I have never regretted using starch! Personally I let mine soak completely with the starch and dry completely, so I never have flakes or starch buildup on my iron.
