Will the 505 spray basting work well even though you have starched your top?

Good question.

Yes. I starch the life out of my fabric before cutting. I only ever spray baste with 505, holds like a dream.

Starching stabilizes fabric so cuts are more accurate. Piecing also can be more accurate. It also helps to stabilize the quilt top before layering, so that no puckers develop while quilting. I heavily starch the backing fabric before sandwiching, as then I don't have to worry about unwanted puckers on the back when I machine quilt.

I hand quilt so starch is out for me.

Yes, I use both spray starch and basting spray on almost every quilt.
