I got all the rows done, just have to sew then together. I'm a little concerned because they are not really even. Not sure if I should attempt to straighten the line or if it will just work out in the end. :? Should have thought about that sooner, I guess. But I think it turned out pretty good for a first time.

I had a couple oopies where I sewed the wrong sides together. Luckily, I had enough extra fabric to recut the pieces. The stitches I used were too small to undo. It would have taken me all day just to do that.

Below is the pic. I still have to trim the in between pieces, but you get the jist of it.

I like your choice of colors and the placement of them. It gives a good sense of movement.

Great colors! You did a fabulous job! How are you going to quilt it?

moonhoney2 05-18-2008 06:24 PM

Thanks all! I'm really excited now. I was a bit discouraged last nite. The cutting took forever and when I realized I sewed a few pieces wrong, I called it a nite. I felt like a failure.

But I woke up this morning with a new sense of excitement and couldn't wait to get started on it again.

The BF has already requested that I make a denim quilt for him out of his old jeans (I swear the man has saved all his jeans going back to when he was in HS!)

Now i have to figure out how to rearrange my office/craft room so that I can put in a sewing table. Or at the very least, get a case for it. Pulling the machine in and out of the box everytime I want to sew is tedious. I want to do a little sewing now since the kids are in bed, but it's too much of a hassle.

Um, I have no idea. I thought about maybe just outlining the pieces, but am not sure. i haven't gotten that far in my Quilting Basics book.

I look back on my first quilts and I didn't have a clue - but I was happy with what I had accomplished. That't what this is about. We learn as we go and we have fun on the way. Just enjoy. I've only been quilting about 3 yrs and wish I had the time to do this for the last 50 yrs. enjoy!

I wouldn't worry about any mistakes you might find in your quilt. Everybody but one on this board has made mistakes sewing their quilts. That one person... well, he's special.

*L*

It looks fine. Take your time, it will all work out.

That came out great, its very pretty a good pattern to start. I made one jean quilt and it will probably be my last. It is heavy and very hard to work on so don't let it discourage you. Your off to a great start :D

Chele 05-19-2008 11:31 AM

A lovely first quilt! Make more!

isnthatodd 05-19-2008 11:37 AM

I love that pattern. Blue is my favorite color, and the yellow gives it just enough life to be interesting. I just did one sort of similar for my new granddaughter. Pictures of her and the quilt should be up soon.

Love the blues and yellows! Great first quilt.

Rats, hit a button..
Second attempt.

First quilts are for learning. Enjoy the colors you work with, the idea you finished a project, the comfort it gives while snuggling. Don't beat up yourself if the corners do not match perfectly ! The craft is a tough one. While working on a project it is similar to looking at an elephant with a magnifying glass !! Stand back, breath and pretend you have never seen the project before ! You will enjoy your job so much better !!

Congratulations !!

Awesome job for your first time!!! Love your colours!!!

I like your layout and the colours very nice work done already. My quilting sometimes gets a tad uneven also most time if it ain't off by too much I can pick it up at the end. I still make alot of mistakes by just not paying attetion to what I'm doing lol. You wouldnt wanna see the mistakes that's gotten covered up . lol happy quilting.

moonhoney2 05-20-2008 05:47 PM

Thanks everyone! I'm anxious to get back to it, but these darn kids keep getting in the way! Hopefully, I can squeeze some time in this weekend to try and finish it.
