I am ready to organize my left over fabrics. I put the little scraps aside for scrappy quilts. What is a good & inexpensive way to store the larger pieces? I'm a real "neat nut" and want to start a storage system before my leftovers get out of hand!

Mine are all folded to a size that is about 6" X 10" and then stacked on shelves. They are sorted by color or type (like 30's repros, Chrstmas, etc) If you do not have shelves, you could sort and put into see-thru plastic storage containers.

The way I save my left over's for my stash is I find some nice boxes that are about three in deep, and then for most quilts you need strip cut at 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inch so I just go ahead and cut the strips out of the left over fabric and mark the box as to what colors and size is in the box. The other thing if you have 2 1/2 strips cut already then you need a binding you can just get in the box and see what you have that you can use for that too. I also found that so many quilts that I have made the strip I want are right there in the box and dont have to cut them, you can also buy the see through boxes at the store and you can always see right away what you have in them. It is great for patch work quits.
hope this helps.

We have the KENT building supplies stores here and they have one section all on storage containers and oooooooooh there are some fantastic clear boxes to put my scraps in... Me thinks I might need to make another excursion to my nearest Kent store to see what they have there. My scraps and crumbs are really starting to pile up now!

I have clear plastic shoe boxes (no tops) that I stack folded fqs into sorted by color. Then, I have a set of shelves, and I stack the boxes on the top shelf, plus have 2 shelves for larger, folded pieces of fabric, also sorted by color. Also, I have 2.5 gal plastic zip top bags that I put "sets" of fabric into to keep them together with a pattern - really a ready project -- and those live mostly in drawers in my worktable. THEN, I have large tote boxes with tops that hold silk ties, flannel and misc. fabrics, which are stacked on the floor on one end of the closet. Whatever works for you!!
