I'm not sure about the Oklahoma flower, "Indian Blankets" (gaillardia). I've looked it up on the web and the info I've found suggests that mistletoe is the official state flower, and Indian Blankets are the official state wildflower.

I didn't realize that a state could have two types of official flowers.

Could anyone from Oklahoma shed some light on this?

I must admit... Indian Blankets are a whole lot more showy than mistletoe!

I don't know anything about Oklahoma but I just wanted to say that I was lucky enough to purchase Carol Doak's Fifty Fabulous Stars book AND fabric with all the official state flowers for $50 recently. I was thrilled. Haven't made it yet.

Wow Dee, that is a very interesting site. Thank you for posting it. Lots of good information there. I'm supposed to be cleaning, but here I am (as usual) reading all the great stuff on the forum!!

I used to live in OK and the state does have a lot of things designated as "state XXX". Each state has its' own list of what they recognize...so having a flower and a wildflower is not unusual. Alaska and a few others have state insects, etc. Getting something recognized as a "state xxx" is simply a matter of getting a legislator to nominate it and the majority of folks to agree to it.

I just looked at Ruby McKims 1930's State Flower patterns & she used the Mistletoe pattern for OK

Those are pretty :mrgreen: I didn't know Indiana was a pink peony .

according to this list OK has THREE official flowers...mistletoe is floral emblem, rose is state flower and the state wildflower...I lived there and I didn't know about the rose.....

One of my Guilds did a state flower raffle quilt a few years back. Oklahoma was represented by a red tea rose. NY's was a red rose (regular size rose)

The state of WA has so many official "fill in the blank" that I can't keep up LMBO
So I am not surprised... We have a state flower, wild flower, shrub, tree, etc............. and a slug fits in there somewhere too LOL
