I am considering buying a steam press to use for fusing applique, etc. Does anyone here have experience using one? I would appreciate comments and suggestions.
Thanks

I watch Eleanor Burns use one on her show and it looked pretty slick :D:D:D

I bought a steam press on CL and I really like it. I don't use it for quilting much. When I make drapes, applique, and machine embroidery it saves so much time and much easier on the back. I also use it to press large pieces of fabric before cutting. I use a spray starch with mine also. Just be sure to use the sewing board cover that comes with the machine. Be sure to wipe off the cover each time you use the starch before putting it away. I don't use it every day but it sure is great when I need to iron large pieces of fabric. Look for them second hand first, I have found plenty on sale, like the sewing machines, you either use them all the time or not at all. Mine had been used twice.

I have had one for probably 16 or 17 years. I use it for fusing interfacings to pattern pieces, applique and fusing the fusible fleece to pieces when I'm making purses. I love that you can do such a large section at once and don't have to keep raising up and moving your iron. Mine is a Singer model that I got when I worked in a Singer/New Home (now Janome) store. It still works beautifully!

I've used them before and they're pretty cool. Though, they take up space and I think have limited use potential. But, fun if you have the extra $. Any new sewing tool is fun!!

Well, I took the plunge and purchased one on Ebay. My winning bid was $7.50 plus $24 postage. Hope I am not disappointed.

I have never used one. Let us know how you like it.

The press arrived on Friday. Looks like it is in good condition, but have not tried it yet. I am finishing up a major purge of my sewing room and will give the press a try in a day or two.

I never did update on this purchase. I didn't read the description carefully and ended up getting a piece of junk that would not heat and it was described in the description of the item. Live and learn!! My husband encouraged me to go ahead and buy another one, I did and paid a reasonable price for it. I love it!! Makes fusing large pieces of interfacing and fleece very easy. I also use it for pressing large pieces of fabric. It also makes a wonderful crease in pants legs for that professional look. So if you have the bucks and room for one I suggest you buy one. You won't regret it.
