I've tried searching the forum and can't see this topic discussed. My friend just bought me a blue oval plastic bobbin holder....it STINKS! (I have a softer round one that doesn't) I set it outside for 2 days, I sprayed it with fabreeze, I soaked it all day & overnight in vinegar....but this morning it still smells...I've just popped it into the freezer to see what happens..... other than throwing it away, does anyone have another idea that might help, thanks.

Baking Soda??? Don't know - but that's what I use to clean the fridge & freezer to take out odors.

It could be a defect in the manufacturing - have you contacted the manufacturer?

Time might help. The plastics in it are out-gassing. Some are worse than others. I'd probably place it outside for a month and then check it.

I would try to put it in a place in the house that receives lots of fresh air. It should be OK in a few days. The plastic is just breathing and it will go away, just like the smell from some fabrics that have that chemical smell.

I had that happen to me years ago with a coffee pot. I kept running water through it and thought after the newness went through it it would stop, but that should have only been a couple times. I finally took it back to the store for a replacement. I couldn't get the burned plastic smell from it and surely wasn't going to drink anything from it!!

Sorry, was a little off the subject, but that is what came to mind when you said you couldn't get the smell to go away.

Sometimes a new rotary mat will stink like this too. Try putting it in the dishwasher for several loads. I think I wash more non dishes in my dishwasher then dirty dishes.

You have done everything I would have done. Does it smell like new plastic or is it another smell.

Years ago--I had a lady tell me to soak plastic stinky(whatever) in vanilla water.
Just mix up some vanilla & water & soak away. It worked for me when I soaked some plastic Avon bath powder containers. I ended up using them for candy dishes.

Just out of the freezer & it's not quite as bad, so it's now soaking in a vanilla bath, can't hurt it. thanks for the suggestions.
