What is to sew or quilt in the ditch? Thanks. Deb

To stitch in the ditch means to sew in the seam between two fabrics sewn together. You can quilt like this, sew on the binding, or a waist band on clothing. Really too many things to name, have fun.

Whenever I make a rail fence design I always quilt in the ditch on my machine. It requires a walking foot; but I love the design the thread gives on the back of the quilt and you can't see the stitches on the front.

For all of you who are "ditch" quilters: Did you see the two new feet offered by Bernina? They have one specifically for ditch stitching and also a new open toe? I just wish I had a Bernina as I would have both of these feet.

you can buy feet just like those that will fit any machine. they're usually under $20.

search on "stitch in the ditch presser feet". you'll find several sources.

happy hunting. :-)

For those preser feet, you might want to check out Nancys Notions or Clotilde. both have catalogs on line and a paper catalog if you prefer. Good luck!
