ok, i think i'm confused( not an unusual state for me). i didn't realize you could sid with a JF. Isn't it to be used with dogs down? did you go side to side or up and down? joanne, your work is gorgeous, I may have to give JF another try!

i do all my stitch in the ditch by free motion whether its on my flynn frame or just free motion on my sewing table top.

I use SID because I have a guideline (seam) to sew down.
I have a shot at finishing the quilt because I am still too insecure to try other methods and I like the soft feel of a quilt that is not stiff from stippling.
Using the SID foot helps me stabilize the path (unless I drank more than 2 glasses of wine and the stitch is the "falling drunk along the ditch bank." :lol:)

Will I advance? Hopefully. Has anyone ever commented on the fact that their gift was "only" done with a SID? Never.

I have actually seen handquilting done in the ditch. Now THAT I don't understand.

What size needle is recommended doing stitch in the ditch? My walking foot kept jamming and so did my cotton thread. Could it be a worn or universal wrong size needle could cause it? What size needle should I use for a cotton top and bottom quilt with low loft batting? Thanks Pauline

First you need to find out why is your walking foot jamming. Did you put
it properly? Check your user manual. For needle, I prefer to use Schmetz
90/14. If you haven't changed your needle on your machine for a while it's
probably a good idea to do so anyway. :D
