take your measurements for the closet you plan on using..and see about one of those plastic shevling units to fit inside..big lots or walmarts may have something cheap too.. |
If there is a Saver's in your area, check it out! I have found yarn, fabric, shelving, storage bins, and they often have a few old sewing machines.

Do you have a used office furniture store in area or Craigslist.com? I bought a used 6 drawer legal lateral cabinet from a law firm that was closing for a very low price. It's about 5 foot wide, 5 foot tall and has 4 pull out drawers. With laterals it's nice cause they have nice big drawers and they open by folding the front up and sliding the drawer out so you can see all the fabric in that one at once. Also when you close them everything looks nice and neat and you're able to store boxes on top. Here's a picture of one. I have over 10 boxes of fabric in just that one. Since picture I bought about 8 of the decorative boxes from Joann's and store them on top.

My Goodwill always has some type of bookcase or tv cabinet (lots of those since the flat screens debut) that you can turn into great storage pieces for fabric.

Yes, Savers is a great place.
Before I discovered Savers I bought metal shelves for 16 dollars at Target and they were a bear to put togather. I keep expecting them to come apart. So dont buy them. |

Craigslist, freecycle, thrift stores, yard/ garage sales would be your nest bet. Or find one that you love and ask for gc toward the purchase of a brand new one for your birthday and holidays..
I found these at lowes.. I ended up getting 3 of them.. and they can stack on top of each other.. these hold my 1930s stash, and my fqs... shoe organizer from Lowes |

The last time I was at my HFH Restore, they had a tall white bookcase for $20 and a really nice white desk that would make a great sewing table for $20. I only had my car so could not buy them, but have dreamed of them since.
