is it true you have to store fabric in the dark? I need more tubs for my fabric and i would like to get the 3 drawer tubs that walmart has to store them in

I make sure to store mine away from sunlight...

Mine is stored on open shelving so I can see what I have........ sunlight does not shine directly on the fabrics and so far I havnt had a problem (some been there at least 10 yrs)

I have mine on open shelving, novelty and seasonal are in tubs in the walk in closet..

I store mine on shelves in baskets and shield the tops so that the sun cann't fade them on the leading edge. If the shelves were on the opposite wall, I would not need to shield them, but then would not get into the room!

sunshine and direct light will fade your fabrics with time, so, it should be stored where the sun will not shine on it, as for your lighting in your room as long as you move your fabric around and (rotate) it; you will probably not notice any fading before you use it up. the same is true for your quilts they should not be stored where sunshine will get them, and refold, move around on occassion.

Alot of my fabric is stored in those utility cabinets (5 shelf) has a door on it. That way the sunlight is off it and it's organized so I can see at a glance what I have in the various colors to work with. Course I used a white 5 shelf book case to store patterns, rulers, sewing notions etc on. Makes my sewing room nice and organized which I'm generally not.

The majority of my fabric is in open closet...but I do have a curtain I hang over the opening when I am not choosing fabrics for a project. The rest of my fabric is in bins, drawers, a cupboard, another closet..all in places away from light. You don't want fade lines along where your fabric if folded, so best to keep it out of ANY light.

Either try keeping it out of sunlight, or plan on folding it very often  or you could get faded spots on it.
