For those that have made string blocks, once you have made your block and have it all squared up do you go back and sew around the outside edge or just leave it alone and just sew the blocks together.

I have started to make a few. Will they go together ok or will some of the fabric flip up if your not to careful.

I've made some string blocks. I've never bothered to sew around the outside edge, but just put the blacks together. It works fine for me.

You could always try putting several together and see what you think.

I have made several quilts out of string blocks and sewed a 2 inch sashing between them. Did not sew around each tho.

I've made alot of these and have never had any trouble sewing them together with or without sashing! You should be fine...just lay them together and do not pull as you stitch!

I've made strings {foundation pieced} so did not require sewing around the edge. If you place your right sides together and sew a 1/4 seam to join, you'll be good to go.
In asking about sewing the edges, are you worried about the bias of the strips stretching?
