strip cutting,Help!!!

I purchased a pattern on line for Trinity Celtic Knot quilt,love the pattern but would like to make a quilt using strips instead of small blocks. Cutting instructions are for 2.5 in blocks in various shades,.. . I want to use 4 colors, 3 for knots and 1 for background. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am making a King size quilt.

I don't understand the problem. Just cut all your 2.5" blocks out of your 4 colors. Without having the pattern it's hard to tell if strip piecing would work, if that's what you are asking.

Just cut the fabric in 2.5 inch strips. Use your rotary cutter and your mat with a great ruler and just start cutting your strips.

I'm reading between the lines here, but are you asking if you can substitute a strip of fabric rather than two or more squares in a block? Looks like the blocks are 9 patches. So, for instance, if the block you are working on has 3 background squares in a row, you would cut a strip 2.5" wide by 6.5" long. Even though you are cutting a strip to replace three 2.5", you can't just multiply the measurement by three because of the seam allowances. If you replace 2 squares, cut a strip 2.5" by 4.5". Because of the complex color layout I would still make the individual blocks rather than trying to cut strips and make a whole row that way. I think you would have real issues in getting everything to line up.

What she said..... I'm trying to figure out how you could replace the individual blocks with strips and still have the same color variations...

Partial seams.

You could do a bunch of it with strip piecing.

I was looking at the block a couple of weeks ago.
I personally didn't care for the pieced look (especially on the background fabric) - though I totally understood why it was originally done that way.

I was willing to do the extra work and lose some of the benefits of strip piecing.

But I don't think that route is for everyone.

One note, though.

If you're talking about the background, and you're doing it with one blender-y type fabric instead of the scrappy look (different fabric) for each square, it will affect the overall look of the quilt.

And, I think, make it a bit flatter.

Thank you very much for your input.I saw a picture of one done (I think it may have been on this site,but not sure)that may have been done in strips. I may have to go with the small blocks but not all the variations in colors, I prefer the 4 basic colors. Guess I better study the pattern some more.
