What kind of prints do you like? Buying for my new store starts tomorrow, so tell me what you like and what you have trouble finding.

the new fairy frosts are great, really pretty colors.
i like to shop the stores that have a good selection of a variety of fabrics, re: 30's, moda's, thimbleberries, etc. One of our local stores is 90% Thimbleberries, nice store, but not enough variety. fabric lines are really great for people who have trouble putting quilts together. |
Don't forget blenders--solids and marbled fabrics. Small prints that go with eye-catching large prints.

Prints with a lot of contrast for OBW's I prefer prints without animals or people in them...sometimes the body parts can look a little disconcerting in the blocks LOL
Just a suggestion... it is ever so helpful to have a measuring device in the picture with the fabric to be able to get a true look at the size of the prints, stripes, etc. :D:D:D |
I agree with Pat and Pups - solids and fabrics that read as solid are important. I know a quilt shop owner has told me she doesn't like to carry them, but I would say at least 50% of my quilt shop purchases fall into that category, and definitely all of my larger-yardage purchases.
And I really love the contemporary stylized florals, and batiks. |

Lots of variety in print sizes, types, colors! Try to find something for everyone! I rarely buy solids, but often buy tonals - love fusions and marbles. One place I shop has mainly Civil War and 1930's fabric. I don't really care for either, so it's usually just the basics for me when I shop there. I have a variety in my stash, but do gravitate towards the brights.

I like all kinds of florals.

I love Florals!!! Orientals are my new "fav" for collecting.

Oh, prints suitable for men's quilts would be nice too!
|
I have noticed that many of the magazines are showing bright pink, orange, and green prints. (Not my thing, but seems to be the current trend.)
If you have other LQSs around you, find a niche that they haven't filled and focus on that. (Such as 30s prints.) That way, you won't be competing with other stores as much. One of my LQS has a HUGE selection of batiks. The other focuses on Civil War prints. |
I like them all  Just depends what I am making .
Tone on tone in colors I tend to stay away from strips since you have to cut them just so or they don't look right |

A good variety of tonal/blender fabrics to go with all the 'fun stuff' would be a real asset.
|
Small prints with vibrant colors.
|
Complete collections and the pattern to use them in!( Seems I can always find some, but not all, and I won't start something like a quilt unless I can buy everything at once( no stash at my house, no room!)
|
Wide backings! I like 60" or wider, I want backing for a CA King. I get muslin from Joann's or buy off line as the LQS carry very few colors and rarely ever a print.
|
I love large floral prints.
|
I would love to see more large prints with multi colors. I look through my stash and have many blenders, tonals and small prints but very little large prints. Everything seems to be 2 colors except for Kaffe Fassett which are a little too out there for me right now.
Also very rarely see gray fabrics those don't look black. |
