Substitute for Little Genie Washers

I just recently had a problem with the bobbin in my DSM....the bobbin would rattle -- I could hear it bouncing when I sewed. Remembering the Little Genie washers and having NO desire to drive 30 miles one way to get some, I improvised. I use the M size prewound bobbins on my longarm. The prewounds also come in the L size (for your home sewing machines) and have a lightweight paper on the outside --- just like the sides of a regular bobbin. I cut one to fit into my bobbin case and VOILA, no more bouncing bobbin. If you see any prewounds at the store, buy one -- they're very inexpensive and can be used for more than one thing!!!

That is a good tip if you need a spacer. The Genies are to prevent static that causes birdnesting and other problems.

The static naturally discharges thru the metal in the machine. Birdsnesting is caused by the bobbin being too loose and spinning after you've stopped the machine -- ANYTHING you put in there to "tighten" up that bobbin is going to help.

Be careful of the cardboard, it will build up link in your machine from the friction of the bobbin......

Or lint, even.....

Actually, Peckish, the piece of cardboard or whatever it is shouldn't be moving at all....only the thread moves around....so no lint (link :)) SHOULD be forming!! But you know -- nowadays, who can tell!!!!

my momma taught me to use oiled stablizer like pellon put a drop of oil on it, and it works also.

Do you cut the pellon into the shape of the washer?
