Suggestions needed

Aside from this message board, I'm also a part of another online community known in cyberspace as the ALI (Adoption, Loss and Infertility) community. We're a group of women, and a few men, who have found support within each other while in the throes of family building roadblocks. Some of us have had extensive infertility treatments, others are pursuing adoption, and still others are living childless and trying to cope with that. But the common theme is that we all want children and are unable to do so "naturally".

Someone I know from that community is having an online auction to benefit her adoption fund and has asked people she knows if we would be willing to donate handmade goods or other items towards the auction. I was thinking of making a quilt to donate, but am clueless on a "theme". I obviously don't want to go the "baby" route as there are too many people in this community who are childless. I've never met this person in real life, but have been online friends with her for about 5 years.

I'm looking for some pattern ideas and fabric suggestions for a fairly simple to piece quilt. I know I'm overthinking this, and that's why I'm coming up blank...so anything anyone can offer by way of suggestions would be much appreciated.

You know, 9 patches are beautiful and classic, and I dont know anyone who doesnt like them? Or how about a fall or Christmas themed quilt?

A 9-patch, log cabin, trip around the world, rail fence

These are all easy to do and make lovely quilts.

Told you I was overthinking it. A 9 patch or disappearing 9 patch would be excellent. I've got Christmas fabric that isn't lined up for anything that I can use.

A baby theme may not be the best way to go, I agree that a Christmas theme would be excellent, but I would do a table runner, and or 4-6 placemats with napkins.

You could do mug rugs, needle holders, pincushions -

Maybe a 'kitchen/dining set'? matching/coordinating place mats, pot holders, and table runner?

My sympathy and condolences to you and all those that want children and don't seem to be able to produce them 'naturally.' I think that's another thing that many of us have taken for granted.

I know I'm late to the conversation, but I would choose a traditional quilt in colors that say "hug me!" We stopped fertility treatments several years ago and remain childless, and even now sometimes it's great to feel hugged by someone who understands.

xo!

Warm Wishes is a great simple quilt that looks hard. The trick to it is to find a focus fabric you love for the 1 piece block and to use a fabric that is close to the color of the background of the 1 piece block for the middle of the 3 piece block. This is a free pattern on the internet.
