Has anyone used this before for quilting? I got some today in an attempt to machine quilt. I plan on using the monofilament for the needle & cotton thread in the bobbin. I usually use just cotton thread, but I need the invisible on top because it's light colors.
Does anyone have an idea on which size needle I should use?
I have the Schmetz needles for my Pfaff if that helps.

All you have to do to check needle size is to thread the needle with the thread.

Hold one end between two fingers, and the other end 2 feet or so away with your other hand. Now move one hand down, does the needle slide freely? If it does that needle is fine.

I've been using Coats momfilament, because that's all they carry at my joann's and my only complaint about the stuff, it that its very "springy" and likes to get wrapped up as it comes out of the needle, this sounds strange I know, but it will get so wound up where it doesn't belong that the thread gets very very tight and will eventually break. The thread really needs a elastic cover to allow it to feed properly. So far I just have been simply checking mine often while I sew.

I used it in both the the top and bobbin. Never had a problem. I have a Janome 10001. I know some say that they cannot use it their bobbins. Just do a trial run on a scrap sandwich.

i just took a machine quilting class and she used it with a size 70 needle for free motion. i bought some when i got home, but haven't used it yet!

Thanks! I've been playing around with different size needles. I think I'll go with a 75.
Another question??? Is it suppose to show the needle holes in the fabric?
I noticed with the invisible thread, I see where the needle holes are on top, but not on the bottom where I've used the cotton thread in the bobbin. :?:

i'm anxious to try the size 70 needle. i think you'll see a difference. smaller needle, smaller hole.

I've used it in both the top and bobbin and have had no problems. I have a Viking Designer I. To minimize the needle holes in my fabric, which are highly visible with invisible threads, I use a smaller needle, like a 70. But if I have cotton thread in my bobbin, then I use an 80 needle.

I have used monofilament thread quite a bit but finds it works better with a bobbin thread in the bobbin it is a much finer thread and I prefer sulky or YLi but there are some other good brands

Try using a Schemtz 70 Microtech needle. I was taught to wind the bobbin at half speed if you are using monofilament thread. The slower you wind the bobbin, the less the monofilament will stretch.

Well, I went today and bought the size 70 needle, and IT DID make a difference. So, now this is what I'll be using.

I've used it on a few table runners and liked it. It's really hard to thread tho because I can't see it! :lol:
