You have done a good job of inspiring me to organize my sewing room. In unpacking the many boxes and bags of "unknown and forgotten contents" I have found some light wt (thin) and med wt sweat shirt material purchased to make lounge or sweat outfits for my family. Is there any reason not to use this as batting for table toppers/runners or wall hangings? I could sell it or give it away but if I can use it it would save money. Are there other things you use as batting in small projects or even in quilts? Love this board and all the information you share. Thanks to everybody.

Once you get it preshrunk, it'll probably make a really nice batting. Soft and definitely warm. Maybe a little heavy.

IMHO, not a thing wrong with that. I use old blankets and mattress pads for batting. I purchase quilted bedspreads from motels that are updating their decor. You name it, I will quilt it. The only thing I will not use is a used horse blanket.

I say go for it, just wash it first. Let us know how it works out for you.

Try out a sample and see. I would worry it won't breathe as nicely as batting but in a very cold climate maybe it would work?

I quilt for charity and we make baby quilts. I've used sweatsuit material often and it quilts nicely. be sure to wash it first.

I have used it many times , in some instances I like it better than regular batting. Just becareful not to stretch the "batting" as you are sandwiching, it will return to its original size once completed. Just smooth it do not stretch. A significant up side to using it is you will never have a bearding issue.
I save the smaller pieces for the insides of potholders ( two layers ) .

Thanks everybody. It goes back on the shelf. It is already washed-- used to do that whenever I brought fabric home so I could sew whenever I had a few minutes.
