What brand or type of stabilizer material do you use for t-shirt quilts? I find the fusibles are easy to work with but not all of them seem to bond well.

I like to use the softest I can find. I generally use the fusible tricot interfacing. Just make sure that the stretch of the t shirt and the stretch of the tricot go opposite each other.

pellon lightweight non-woven fusable interfacing. or mistyfuse.

Let's hear the experiences! I've bookmarked it because I think I may make up a tshirt quilt for MYSELF with all the tshirt I've collected while the kids were in school. :)
Don't have reason to wear them anymore and they're in too good a shape to turn into rags. A memory quilt for myself! |
I use what I have even light wt fabric and use basting spray works great.

I saw a nifty method for making t-shirt quilts at the quilt show. They used a piece of iron on interfacing big enough for the whole quilt. They cut the t-shirts and ironed them all to the same interfacing, 2 inches apart. Then they ironed the sashing between the t-shirts. Then you just fold and sew. The main thing you have to do is use a teflon pressing sheet.
The interfacing they had was very soft and printed with a 1 inch grid. The interfacing is Pellon #821. |
I use Pellon fusible non-woven interfacing. Works great!

I use the Lt. weight fusiable interfacing. It has fusiable on one side only. It easy to work with and every easy to quilt.
|
Just remember to only use t shirts that were laundered without the use of fabric softener or dryer sheets as the fusible interfacing won't adhere as well.
