One of the good things about entering quilts in our County Fair is that you can donate them to charity. So I entered four "Charity Quilts" this year. Everyone gets a participation ribbon (and other ribbons too as they are judged also) but you don't get the quilts back (the fair gives them to a charity)...or so I thought!
When I picked up my quilts from the fair, they brought me all my quilts -- even the charity ones. When I told them I didn't think I was supposed to get the charity quilts back, the woman in charge said, "We had a lady in here this morning that changed her mind and wanted all her charity quilts back to give as gifts." I was appalled -- weren't they a gift already??? Wondered if any of you had heard of such a thing? Thanks for letting me blow off steam! |
Oh that is so wrong! I can't believe that she would take them back after saying they would go to charity. I really have a hard time understanding people sometimes.

It seems like hers were "Charity Quilts" just long enough to be entered in the contest. humm?
|
I'd be appalled, too. I would of said, "Um...hello? They were supposed to be a gift for someone who needed it, not for the ones who made the quilts".

Well let's just assume she had some kind of financial set back and realized she would not have any gifts for loved ones other than those quilts. It's a possibility and helps get rid of the negative thoughts anyway.

There must have been a reason for her to ask for her quilts back, but they should not have given yours back especially since you had not asked for them to be returned.
|
That seems wrong. Like she entered to get ribbons and recognition but always had the intent not to give them to charity. Since the fair gave them back, I would just take them and give them to a charity of your choice. I guess it is an honor system.

OK she wanted hers back but why would they assume you wanted yours back? That seems odd.
