Im at my wits end. I spent the morning rearranging my sewing room and making room for all my machines, new and vintage. I dug out my 1974 Domestic and put it in a sewing table. I had this machine running just a few months ago. Today, I can't get the darned needle to take up the bobbin thread. I have done everything I can think of. Changed thread, chnged bobbins, rethreaded changed needles. It's driving me crazy!!! I have taken out the bobbon case and put it back, even.

The hook in the bobbin area is not catchiing the thread when the needle drops down inside. It's almost as if the needle is coming back up before the hook rotates high enough to catch the thread. The bobbin case only sits in the hole one way so I'm not sure its possible for me to have it in wrong.

Any thoughts, advice or new things to try.....I was really looking forward to SEWING tonight.....but I want all my machines up and running first...lol. Ive had fun collecting and playing with them these past couple of weeks :)

Are you sure the flat side of the needle is in the right position for that machine. I know they are not all the same.

I have actually tried it with the needle in every direction :(

Maybe the timing is out of sync?
If so I don't know how to fix it. I guess you'd have to take it in to be serviced.
There's someone here who knows all about older machines. Maybe he'll see your post and can help you.

I have to agree here. It does sound like a "timing" isssue.

Does it have anything to do with the way you put the plate cover back on..i ask because i spent 2 days on the featherweight when I got my first one and couldn't get it to work..then discovered it had to do with that...

I had the same issue w/my Singer 66, I tried everything I could think of and then took the needle out (for about the 6,737 time) and the needle wasn't all the way in. So even though you've checked it, try it again. Who knows maybe try 6,738 will do the trick.

I just had that happen tonight after my needle broke. The needle I replaced it with wouldn't pick up the bobbin thread because the needle was too short. Not sure where it came from. A longer needle and I was sewing again. Good luck!

:lol: :lol: I will try it again. The thing is, I can see that the needle is going in and touching the thing in the needle bar where it stops. I dont have and cannot find a manual so stuff like this is frustrating.

I keep wondering if this is the problem. Guess I should check my needles. Never realized they were different lengths!
