Templates
 

I don't suppose I am the first to think of this, but just in case.... When I make paper templates for applique I then laminate them and cut out.This preserves them for longer and they can be used so many more times.Thanks for the tips and patterns from all you lovely people over the last few years. Also for the contact through this forum, giving me a creative lift since my move. I am now making new friends and have met another two ladies interested in getting together to quilt and share ideas, I no longer drive due to disability but I know you have to get out there and make the effort and with a lovely husband always willing to ferry me around it makes it easier.Love Letty.

Good idea. I don't have access or funds to laminate so my version is to use clear contact shelf paper. It holds up ok for awhile.

Hi Newboy0709. I bought a home laminating machine for only about £15, from Aldi I think. We have had it for several years now so it has repaid the cost, we use it for so many things.x

Hello, Letty! I can't remember the last time I made a template! Once upon a time I would have loved your laminating tip! I am so glad you are finding others to do quilty things with. When we moved 4 years ago I was excited about finding new quilting friends, too. I did find them. I also found this forum, too! I have made friends here and quilt online with them. I have also recently 'discovered' mystery quilts that I have been joining using fabrics from my stash. I loved hearing you have a willing driver since you no longer drive. It is good to meet you and I will look for you again! Judith

thanks for the great tip... i have a folder full of templates as i like to make unique designs... i'll have to give that a try

I use the 2/$1.00 plastic chopping mats at the dollar store. I can get quite a few templates from one and they last a very long time. If I write directions on the pieces, I put a little piece of scotch tape over the writing to keep it from being smudged or rubbed off.

Do you have any old x-rays? I would ask for them when I would move. Kept them as I'm a hoarder of sorts. Then read to use them for templates.

Becky, I'm with you! I buy the chopping mats 2/$1 at the dollar store, too, and they are perfect for template use. I also find the mats useful for the bottoms of wire storage drawers to keep small items from falling through. Funny thing, I don't think I've ever used those mats for chopping, although they work well for measuring dry baking ingredients onto, then using as a "funnel" to add to the mixer! LOL

You know,I think we quilters could qualify as inventors of the year,we all come up with ideas to re use,re invent and in general discover how to turn things around things to save money. Lets' hear it for such a innovative bunch.

I still have lots of Xrays to use even though I have given a lot away. Not so easy anymore to get this because now most Xrays seem to be put on disc.

I have a local plastic company that will cut templates our of their left over acrylic or if I need a bigger piece then they will cut it for me. I do this with templates I want to use again.
