Texas themed quilt patterns
Hello, Quilters! I can use your help.
Here's my ongoing project: I have a number of younger family members who are students at universities. I have made quilts that honor their schools. For the Buckeyes, I made quilts in Scarlet and Gray, with the Ohio Star as the pattern. For the Tulanian, the quilt had all the colors of Tulane, using the Louisiana pattern, and quilted with Fleur-de-lis. Now I have a a young relative at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. I would like to make her a quilt that incorporates a Texas theme. I found a pattern for a frog (TCU team name is the horned frogs) that I would like to intersperse with the Texas themed pattern. I would like to hear from any and all of you for suggestions. Thanks so much! |
There's Texas Star and lots of other Texas blocks .... just a google away from you! :)

You need a star and a boot and a cowboy hat and a Blue Bonnet for sure. No Texas quilt would be complete without an amadillo. They are everywhere.

I don't know if you'd consider it specifically Texas-themed, but I have to say I really like some of the boot quilts that I've seen recently (especially if it's going to made for a female).
Here's one example: http://www.jubileequilting.com/Galle...oot-quilt.html The fabric variety obviously makes that quilt sing - and makes me smile each time I see it. You could always but the frog on the boot. Here's another version (pattern): http://www.chickadeecharms.com/westernpatterns.htm If you do a Google search on "boot quilt" and click on IMAGES, you'll see many others for more ideas. |
Remember a horned toad looks nothing like a frog, if you have never seen one look it up before you use just any frog pattern.

There is a quilt that has a large outline of Texas in the center, made up of patches of fabric that have Texas themes. It is on a neutral background usually, with blocks around that with boots, bluebonnets, etc. YOu could do something like that, with a horned toad in one of the blocks. I don't know the name of the quilt, but at our last quilt show, there were at least 8 of them, so it must be popular. Wish I had a picture of one, but I don.t
I may go google and see if I find one. Dina |
Okay, I did find it by googling, but when I copied the address, it wasn't right. Just google Texas quilt patterns....if you are interested. I think it is called Texas 2 Step, but I am not positive.

You need to include a oil well, they are plentiful in East Texas.
