Thai Silk fabric

1 Attachment(s)
I found this Thai silk fabric at a local re-run store for $2.00 a peice, thought it was beautiful and brought it home! It was in the original package with the information on care. I googled Thai silk and found a lot of interesting facts about the way it is produced. It is gorgeous with a beautiful lustre! Now, my question is....what do people use the fabric for? How could it be used in quilting? One piece is 2yds.-14" and the other 2- 3/4 yds. It feels fantastic and has a wonderful drape to it. Thanks for your ideas and input.

maybe make a blouse and skirt. As for quilting I'd say you could use it there also.

According to the info that I've seen, it cannot be machine washed, so it seems it would be hard to just add with cotton fabrics that might be used much.

Since it can't be washed, I would add some other unexpected drycleaning fabric i.e. leather, velvet, etc. and make some to-die-for- sofa pillows for gifts.

you can hand wash it- I do it all the time, just use a little shampoo and drip dry. I made 2 quilts for my daughters, sadly i had to retire the one because she laid on her quilt to do her homework, but it lasted 6 years. I also surged the edges, as it will unravel easily.

for the unraveling, could you put a lightweight fusible interfacing on it?

Both are lovely pieces, N. Yes you can quilt with silk. It does need a lower temperature when pressing. Here's some links I found:

Good luck!
