My DS gave me her sew machine since she doesn't sew anymore. It is a very basic 2 stitch machine. The thing is it won't sew a straight line, is there something I can do mechanically to fix this?
Thank you! David |
It sounds like maybe the feed dogs are not pulling the fabric thru correctly. Also you may want to use one of those guides on the right side of the needle that makes you feed it in the machine straight ?

I had this problem with a sorta new machine. Took in in for repair.....I hand not taken off the throat plate....the feed dogs were packed with lint. Amazing how nicer it sews once cleaned properly:)

In addition to cleaning all the lint out, I am remembering a similar post. I think they said their machine was stitching a little sideways. Someone suggested a decorative stitch (or zigzag stitch) might be selected rather than the straight stitch.
Can you show us a photo of the machine? Do you have the manual. Name and model number? Many manuals are online for free. |
A lot depends on what type of machine it is. It may need some good lubrication as well as cleaning.

It would help if we had a picture of the machine and the fabric that it is not feeding through, to see what the stitch looks like.

A freind of mine had a simular probem. It was on a Singer 401. She had sewn with it since 1954 and the foot was always crooked. She had taken it to the repair man and he could not fix it. I loosened the shaft that holds the presser foot and re aligned it. It is now perfect. Is this what your machine is doing?
It looks to me like it is set up correct so I don't know what to tell you. |
hmmmm Thanks for the advice, I'll play with the foot abit and see if it helps
