Funny!

QuiltnCowgirl 02-25-2011 12:35 PM

   How dare they!! LOL Creative idea, but I sure hope those treadle machines were in such horrible condition that they couldn't be saved & this was their only salvation.

KatFish 02-25-2011 12:36 PM

My DH wants one. I told him there was no way I would participate in the killing of an vintage sewing machine. He thinks my Singer 99K would make a really awesome tractor. I say my Singer 99K makes a really awesome straight stitch, so dream on.

I would hope they were well and truly past their use-by date too. They do look nifty though :)

Rainybug 02-25-2011 12:59 PM

You go, girl! Protect your 99K - those vintage machines are the greatest!

the casual quilter 02-25-2011 02:35 PM

How many of us would love to have a vintage treadle? I hate to see this sort of thing happen.

Mimito2 02-25-2011 02:37 PM

OUCH! He needs beaten with a wet noodle!

sueisallaboutquilts 02-25-2011 02:39 PM

I really don't like them :(

Maia B 02-25-2011 02:53 PM

Yeah, I hate those, vanities made from treadle bases, lamps, etc. I can't help but think either the one I'm looking at was "killed" to make the item or that others will be inspired to destroy a working machine to imitate it. <shudder>

Hosta 02-25-2011 02:57 PM

oh this is beyond awful that man obviously doesn't have a wife that sews

I wrote the seller and told him that lots of people collect the old sewing machines, working or not, and that it hurts us to see them made into something else...

sueisallaboutquilts 02-25-2011 05:28 PM

Did you really???????? Good for you! But I bet he just wants the $$$ and brushed you off :(

Mariposa 02-25-2011 07:42 PM

I'd love to have a vintage treadle for myself--to use! I do hope the machines used were no longer usable!

I've seen these before and just don't get it... What does a sewing machine have to do with a tractor? They could have as easliy put a toaster or a handmixer on the front... HUH???

I soooo agree!!

It ticks me off when I see a beautiful old Singer cabinet converted to a table or a really nice iron base with a glass top on it. Guess that is probably because I gave up my old Wheeler and Wilson Family #9 for a modern piece of junk and my husband got rid of the cabinet and converted the head to hand crank to make sheathes for his hand made hunting knives. Now, I am trying to recondition an old cabinet that has not been cherished by someone so that I can use the 127 in it, or better yet, the 66 I got . I sure miss that relaxing feeling that treadling gave you as you sewed away.

grann of 6 02-26-2011 04:36 AM

Okay! So now we need to come up with some way to turn a tractor into a sewing machine! Leave it to a man!

Reminds me of a time a few years back when visiting my brother in Michigan. He took me into an "antique" store where they had lots of sewing machines. There was an old treadle cabinet turned into a glass-topped table. I made some rude comment about it, not realizing the shop owner was close by. He said the machine didn't work so he thought it would make a nice table. I asked what he did with the sewing machine part, he said he threw it in the trash. I was mortified and spewed a few epithets to him about destroying history, etc. He just walked away. Needless to say I didn't buy any of his too expensive sewing machines. Again, I say, MEN!!!!

lillybeck 02-26-2011 05:38 AM

I think they are adorable and they were probably well beyind using before they were used for this.

bobquilt3 02-26-2011 05:58 AM

Craig's list give me the creeps. Wouldn't be surprised at anything.
