When I was in high school I was working in a coffee shop in a tiny town,the local quilter everyone called "Granny" was hand piecing while she was enjoying a cup of coffee. I mentioned to her I wanted to learn to quilt and that I wanted to make a Double Wedding Ring. She promised to teach me and said she had a secret that saved time by using a whole sheet.
She passed away very soon after that. She never got the chance to teach me to quilt or show me her secret. I think about her often and today I think I may have figured out what she was talking about with the sheet.

Does this sound like it might work?
You sew your pieces in the arc, then applique it to a sheet.

This would not save time for me as Im a pretty slow appliquer. This idea sound interesting to me and I may try a baby quilt just to see how it goes.

wow..that would not be easy...getting all those pieces to line up to applique would take some doing!and at some point those pieces also have to be sewn together...

best get a Shar Jorgenson template set...pretty quick and easy!

They might not shift around if you anchored them in place with glue (the kind that washes out and doesn't gum up your needles...Elmer's school glue will heat set and then wash out when you are done). Maybe try something small, like a pillow case. Probably need to starch the heck out of the foundation to keep it from wrinkling so easy. Just a thought, I've not done applique' too much. Let us know if you try it. I'd like to know how it works out for you.

Gosh, applique-ing onto a sheet sounds way too involved. Just get the
Georgia Bonesteel book "Lap Quilting" and I believe there is a simple
way to make Double Wedding Ring blocks that you can hand quilt (as you go)
and piece together very easily.

There are lots of ways of doing it, but the truth is a double wedding ring that is pieced is not "easy" period!

strip pieced they are not bad..it is repetitive, but not that bad..I took a class using the strip piecing and templates and it really is not that bad...I tried a paper piecing method and forget that...
