Ok some has said that you do your embroidery
with your block and the batting....What kind of batting and how do you use the batting on the blocks that are not embroidered....This may seem a stupid question *LOL* but I just can't get the process wrapped around my tiny brain today...I live in Florida and I don't need much batting in my quilts. A couple I did I just used backing. thanks Rita |
OK, I used a very thin poly batting on the embroidered blocks, with a VERY light stableizer (sp? however i spell this, it always looks wrong!) Anyway, I then just pieced the quilt and used the thin poly for the whole thing, so the blocks with the embroidery had double batting. Here's what it looked like:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-85293-1.htm The embroidered blocks had a little extra poof, but not so much as to be distracting. You could also use a QAUG method, and use backing on the embroidered blocks. |
Ok that will help *LOL* I love the quilt you did thanks for the link...Mine will be sun bonnet sue's . I finally got a whole set call gardening sue......... I'm not so sure about doing quilt as you go method yet either but I am still reading the tut .thanks again Rita

There is a fusable mesh that I use for embroidery when I'm going to use it in a quilt. I use the mesh and then a tear away stabilizer. No batting other than what I use for the quilting.

I did use two layers of whisper web mesh that is suppose to be no show but it did show thru after I had cut off as much as I could. I used one at 90 degrees and one at 45 degrees but I was happy with it.....thanks again Rita

I have used a thin batting on the embroidered blocks, to make the embroidered areas puff out, but did not use batting on the alternate blocks.
You do not have to use batting, you can just use stabilizer :D:D:D |
I used a light cream colored flannel for my embroidery patches and that kept things from showing through. Then I used a different flannel for the other blocks.

I use washaway for my embroidery stabilizer for my embroidered blocks and then just use whatever Quilters Dream batting I want for the entire quilt. Haven't had any problems doing it this way.
