If one pays thousands of dollars for a sewing machine, it sure darn well sew with any sewing machine thread. If it doesn't, you shouldn't buy the machine. My Mom's White treadle sewing machine sewed with any thread she used. I have a Bernina, and I've used many brands of thread. I don't use the 10 spools for a dollar thread, but, any other sewing thread works fine. I have heard of other sewing machine dealers telling their customers to only use Brand X, which just happens to be the brand that they sell. If a sewing machine dealer tells you to use only certain brands, walk away from the dealer as fast as you can. A sewing machine should be able to sew with any reputable brand. I have read on this board, that some people won't use Coats and Clark sewing thread. Really? This is a company that has been in business for decades, but suddenly it itsn't good enough? The best way is try various thread brands and see which ones you like.

So true! If a thread company is a sponsor to a certain brand or quilter then that's the thread that is suggested to use. There are many good brands of thread available for every machine. If your machine has outside threading then lint build up won't be a big problem. If you machine has inside threading then lint will build up fast, no outside air to move the lint away. I use all brands of thread. Usually what I find a good sale price for. Right now that is Aurifil thread and Connecting Threads Essential Pro and Fil-Tec. Found a bargain on them some months ago.

I have used the dreaded coats and clark thread for machine embroidery as well as gutterman and sulky. I also try to clean the bobbin area of fuzz frequently.
