I am wondering about quilting fabric and thread count... what is the normal thread count for quilting fabric? Anybody know?

I think most quilting cottons are 60X60.

I don't understand this.... I am famaliar with a 200 thread count or like linen's.... thansk

I think most people consider 200 count about right.

Some stores sell fabrics that are 150 or lower (Walmart for example), I'd stay away from these.

I was close. I searched and found this article about quilting cotton thread counts. It says most quilt cottons run 68 x 68.

I agree with Scissor Queen - a normal thread count for quilting fabric is, as far as I know, around 60x60. I just looked it up and 60x60 is also indicated for Kona Cotton solids.
I prefer fabrics with a higher thread count (around 75x75 - my quilting looks better on these.

I agree, nothing wrong with using fabrics from Walmart if you find that is what you like and/or afford, but I like the "feel" and look of the fabric from the local quilt store better.

I also notice that fabric from Hancock's is not as sharp or the color's look muted or some even faded...

lower quality cottons are about 60 thread count...quilt shops carry fabrics that range from 60-200 thread count. with the batik's being the 200 thread count fabs.

200 is awfully high thread count even for LQS fabrics... that high and it is almost too dense for most hand quilters.
Compare the weight/feel/look of new bed sheets to LQS fabric and I bet you can see/feel the difference :D:D:D
