First, I hope everyone had a great holiday. I'm still full!
I have a question about the thread sold on www.connectingthreads.com. I was wondering if anyone here has used it before? What you thought of it if you did. The price just seems too good to be true and I am really tempted by the color sets that are available. I'm trying very hard not to be like a kid in a candy store! But with all of the beautiful fabrics and threads I think it is a losing battle! Being a new quilter it is very hard for me to even know what kind of thread is best... and I don't want to wind up with 10 spools of inferior thread! Thanks for the help! |
I love their thread!!!! I'd suggest trying a small thread pack. I use a lot of "neutral" colors when I piece: white, off white; black and gray. And actually, it seems I use the gray the most :D
I've ordered from them TONS of times and LOVE their thread!
I love it, too. I've bought every set they have, and also their cones. For the price, it's wonderful, and it is SOOOO much better than the Coats & Clark thread you can get at Wal-Mart. And it more for less money than C&C. This is one of those instances where it really is true that it is good!
I use it all the time too, even for quilting on the frame...
Ditto everyone else's comments. I love their thread---and the price IS too good to be true, so I recently ordered 35 spools!!!
So, be a kid in a candy shop and treat yourself to some great thread!!! |
I've thought the same thing after going to their site. The prices are great even when not on sale for the thread. I bought the beiges set and since trying them have bought one of the bright colors set. I also bought large spools of thread for quilting and 'down the road' borrowing a quilting machine from a friend, for any large quilts I want to use her machine for. I thought I should at least use my own thread, even tho I'm using her machine and electricty. I highly suggest you get some thread from Connecting Threads.
like everybody else, i've been very impressed by the connecting threads brand.
i'm fighting the urge to buy ALL those colors, too. they're just too darned pretty to resist. :P |
I have a spool of every brand of thread sold at quilt shows! I have used them all. I buy the big cones from Connecting Threads for piecing and have lots of the thread sets. I use it for machine quilting. I haven't had a problem with their thread. I have tried a new thread called Glide from Fil Tec, it's very good for machine quilting too. I like a thin thread for the bobbin at least a size 60, I don't care what brand. I try not to buy any thread that has a well known quilters name on it. Any good thread I can get a lifetime supply of I would endorse it too.
Thanks for all the wonderful feedback!
I knew I would get tons of help with this. You're an awesome group! :D |
I love their thread. I have most of the colors offered and they work great for me.

Love their thread. Only thing I use now.
I love it. Even with the dollar exchange and the shipping it's still a good deal for me......
I assume you are talking about their Essentials Thread. I have used it for a couple of years now. One of my machines loves it and the other is not quite so happy with it. You might start out with a spool of it to see how your machine reacts. I do that with all my thread that I purchase. I just ordered more with their current sale since I can use it in one of my machines.
I love them and also fighting the urge to buy all the colors!
Good topic and good information for everyone. I also like Thread Art thread and their cotton variegated is wonderful for special projects. I buy Thread Art embroidery thread in the big cones all the time. They are online and will send you a catalog.
All my machines are European, computer and recommend using only imported thread. Has anyone had any trouble on Berninas etc?
I love catalogs! Would you have the web address for Thread Art?
Thanks! |
Google Thread Art. The website is awesome.
I have used it and I LOVE their thread. It arrives quickly too.

I find that I can use any thread with my Bernina without it ever breaking or giving me any problems. My older Bernina could not handle fine threads. Anything thicker than 40wt would break. With the 630, any thread goes well. I like to use 50wt for piecing, because my quilts are rarely used for daily use, but when I make kids quilts I use 40 wt. I havent used Connecting threads in years, but when I did I never had any problems with it. |
wow! i saw this post and had to go buy some! thank you!
I have bought from connecting threads and love it!! I will have to check out Thread Arts now, too :D:D:D

Thanks Amma for posting the link for Thread Art. Dummy me, I didn't think to do that. I use google so much, I just presume others do too...LOL!
When you go to Thread Art, sign up for the email specials. A few of my sewing friends and I have gone together and purchased stabilizers, threads, bobbin thread for embroidery, hot fix crystals, etc., and received free shipping. We've done this twice now. One person has to coordinate it. When you sign up for their email specials, sometimes they will notify you of a FREE shipping special. Naturally, that's when I order. |
couldn't wait to get my order out for connecting threads, had it in a few days, and the price was GREAT, and it works great, BUT..am I the only one who gets a LOT of lint from it? I really want to love it.
my sewing group orders from them and we love the thread. There are 5 of us and we order in bulk to save on shipping. It is a better bargain than Joann's even when it is on sale. Hope that helps
Your Welcome! I will go back and sign up for their email :D:D:D

Since serger thread is thinner and fairly inexpensive , some people use it to test embroidery designs. I tried that, but my Janome 11000 just HATED it, so I now only use thread specifically designed for machine embroidery. Also, I only buy Embroidery Library designs because I've never had to test-drive those first. Since I have such a huge investment in my machine and accessories, I make every effort to use good quality threads. I buy and try private label groceries and other household products, but I never, never go to "cheap" on fabric, thread, or embroidery designs. (You can see where my priorities lie!) |
Love your message, Weezie.....I totally agree on the priorities in life! Sewing supplies, fabric, threads, stablilzers.......AND cat food & litter. LOL!
Ok, what does everyone think about the Thread Art thread? I just got it and, so far, it seems fine.
I use Thread Art thread all the time. Their variegated cotton thread is great for quilting, and I use their Rayon & polyester thread for my embroidery machine.
Sure can't beat their prices! |
Thanks! That's a relief to hear (since I already ordered it). Next, I will have to try their embroidery thread. Their prices are good.
