I've been wondering something. When putting a satin stitch on an appliqué, do you use the same thread in the bobbin, or do you use the thread that you use when doing embroidery? And if you use that, do you use the embroidery bobbin with an embroidery needle?

not sure what machine you have. I use a regular sewing machine, not an embroidery machine, and I use a regular bobbin thread in the bobbin but I always make sure that the tension is set so the top thread is pulled slightly to the back and none of the bobbin thread shows on the front. also use a topstitch needle almost every time I sew, nothing special for satin stitch.

I use regular bobbin thread and embroidery thread on top. I don't use a special needle.

Thanks for the info!

When I do any quilting on my machine I use my machine bobbin with regular thread in a color to match my backing.

I just use my regular thread. I have the bobbin thread match to top thread. The bobbin side will be inside the quilt so to me it doesn't matter.
