I was checking on thread today. I buy it at whichever place I am when I start getting low. I had some that kept breaking. The same brand I always use. I tried different colors, checked my tension. The stitches looked fine. Then I read all of the labels. Some was higher priced- made in China It was 100% polyester. Checked the other I had bought,Made in Mexico. Now I ask, do they not make good thread in the USA anymore.? Its costing twice as much. Just because it is a well known brand does not mean it was made here. How do others feel about this?

When having a choice and the price is close, I always choose USA - no matter what the product is.

Several years ago when I co-owned a crafts store I was able to buy fabric at the Coats aned Clark original factory in Richmond (I think) Indiana, they might have gone out of business now. There were floors and floors of fabric (likle going to fabric heaven) The inside of the factory was like going back 80 years --remember when they used to use those old tubes for sending messages to different offfices and floors? (They still used them). At that time they still had thread and notions, crochet thread, floss as well.

I just threw out 3 spools of thread because it was too fat! Labeled the same size as all my thread, but this wouldn't go through the machine the same, and the needle threader wouldn't work with this stuff. Sometimes you CANNOT make lemonade with lemons.

Sometimes you have no choice. So the thread made in Mexico is bad, and if the only other choice is made in China, then that's what you must get to finish your project.
We'll have to watch for some made in the US and see how it stacks up with others. Read the labels, some of them might surprise you, especially for the prices.

Oh, yes, I remember them well. And we still have them in our Costco here. As a child I remember the clerk would write out the purchase on carbon papered sheets, take the money and send them both up the tube to the office, where they would check the math, put in the change needed, and send it back in its own little container. Fun to think such a thing is still used in today's computerized society.

there are so many brands of thread available it will make you dizzy. :lol:

for cotton in solid colors, i use Connecting Threads.

you might have been able to use the thread with a larger needle size. my guess is that the threader didn't work because the eye in the needle you're using now isn't big enough for it to pull the thread through.

might want to try YLI, made in Rock Hill SC, good thread, good price.

I use Connecting Threads no lint and good price.

My Connecing Thread was just as linty as my Coats and Clarks, I was surprised. But I do like sewing with it.
