Time Management. Taking a poll

I found myself in my sewing room yesterday for well over 12 hours! I did all sorts of things...made binding, quilted, started a new top and puttered about.

My question is this. Do you have a clock in your sewing room? I don't and the debate is on if I should have one and placed in a noticable spot!

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Happy sewing (I was in there again this morning)

Gramie bj 03-24-2013 08:55 AM

Yes I have a clock in every room, that doesn't mean I look at it. LOL I also have a small travel alarm clock, if I have to leave my sewing at a specific time to do something like start dinner, I will set it.

scrapinmema 03-24-2013 08:59 AM

Yes, I have a clock in my sewing room but if I have something that needs my attention for a certain time will set the alarm on my cell phone for a reminder.

QuiltnNan 03-24-2013 09:01 AM

my body tells me when it's time to give sewing a break :)

The clock in my studio merely tells me when my next favorite show will be on; doesn't seem to have anything to do with my sewing at all!:D

i do have a clock in the sewing room...I also use the alarm on my cel phone if i need to do something at a particular time. I may spend most of a day in my sewing room- but i set timers to take breaks- so i don't wind up with a back ache- or something else, so i stop for lunch, a drink- what ever. I tend to be pretty organized (time wise) most of the time & know what activities i need breaks from after 45 minutes & what i can do for 2 hours before i should stop for a bit. ... taking a break right now- :)

DebraK 03-24-2013 09:07 AM

my laptop tells me the time if I need to know.

omaluvs2quilt 03-24-2013 09:11 AM

I do, but mostly my dogs tell me when its time to quit...I usually get tired around 4-4:30 and now that they've become accustomed to that routine, they come get me around then. It takes a lot of convincing if I decide to stay longer!

auntpiggylpn 03-24-2013 09:22 AM

I have a clock in my sewing room but I never look at it. I realized sometime this past winter that I had never adjusted for the time change in the fall! Every now and then, I might hear the ticking that it makes but I pretty much act like it doesn't exist! The dogs will come tell me when they want something and if I'm curious about what time it is, I look at my laptop or my cell phone.

TinkerQuilts 03-24-2013 09:33 AM

I have a clock in my sewing room, just so I don't have to stop what I'm doing and leave the room to see what time it is.

quiltyfeelings 03-24-2013 09:46 AM

My kids bought me a clock for my sewing room after I forgot to pick them up from school the SECOND time :-/

21quilter 03-24-2013 10:21 AM

No clock in my sewing room. (But my kiddo is away at college.) I like going into the "zone" and not have to worry about time. My attention span usually doesn't keep me in there forever......I change laundry around, etc.

Many years ago, I did forget to pick up my kiddo from kindergarten when I was in the sewing room. Good thing that kindergarten teacher lived in my subdivision.:o

No clock in my sewing room but I wear a wrist watch. I just about go crazy if I forget to put my watch on in the morning.

Anniedeb 03-24-2013 11:07 AM

I collect clocks...not all keep time! My sewing room is my dining room, which is "center hub" of house, so I'm interrupted often!! (Dining room has eight clocks...only 3 work!!)

luvstoquilt301 03-24-2013 12:01 PM

I have one in there. I often sew in the AM before leaving for work. Don't want to be late.

Spice 03-24-2013 12:21 PM

I have a clock in my studio but it is behind me up high on the wall and only used when I want to be sure not to miss a show.

francie yuhas 03-24-2013 12:26 PM

I'm retiring in 4 days,at which time the watch will go in the drawer with the alarm clock..we only have a clock in the kitchen, and I don't think I'll spend much time in that room! LOL!

BDawn 03-24-2013 12:32 PM

no clock in my sewing room...I have a husband I use to judge the time by...

momto5 03-24-2013 12:37 PM

I haven't looked at a clock in my sewing rooms in 7 years....I have three poodles and a watch just in case the poodles fail me. I'll admit tho, for the VERY FEW TIMES I get up early, I do resort to using my cell as my alarm...:) Retired and lovin' it!

justflyingin 03-24-2013 12:41 PM

I do, because sometimes I go in there for only 20 min or so--have just a few minutes so I need the clock. But I wear a watch as well. The clock is on the wall just above and to the right of my main sewing machine.

yweinst 03-24-2013 01:10 PM

I have to set an alarm so I know when I have to stop quilting. I have a daily one set for when I have to pick up my son from school.

Me too, he always comes to ask if you are done working and can we go eat? I sometimes say I have lots to do yet--go feed yourself, I'm not your mother or your slave!!!!!!! That tell it like it is. Amy

michelleoc 03-24-2013 02:20 PM

I don't have a clock in my sewing room. I just refer to my watch periodically.

happyquiltmom 03-24-2013 02:41 PM

I do have a clock. It's above my computer desk, which is across the room from my sewing station. However, I don't have much time to sew anyway, since I work quite a bit. I do try to get some done on my day off. In the evenings, I usually sit downstairs in my recliner, hand quilt and "watch" TV with DH.

joyce888 03-24-2013 02:46 PM

Yes I've got a clock in my sewing room. Need to know when my favorite shows are on and when I need to get busy doing something else.

Luv Quilts and Cats 03-24-2013 02:52 PM

Yes I have a clock in the room I sew in, but I don't look at it too much.

deedum 03-24-2013 02:57 PM

Oh yes I have a clock in my sewing room. I NEED IT because I sew before I go to work, and if I don't go to work I won't have any money to sew, LOL I also sew before I go to bed, and if I didn't have my clock, I would sew in to the wee hours of the morning, then I would be too tired to work.LOL

JulieR 03-24-2013 03:01 PM

I don't have a clock in the sewing room. I very seldom have the free time to spend hours in the sewing room, and when I do I take full advantage of it.

carrieg 03-24-2013 03:06 PM

Yes, I have a small clock. I'm of a generation that uses clocks. I don't have a laptop & my cell phone is a prepaid thing that stays in my purse.

nhweaver 03-24-2013 03:07 PM

I am a time watcher. I have a timer by the computer, by my sewing machine. I multitask all day (work at home realtor), I have been known to put a cake in the oven and go up stairs and start sewing, only to brought to attention by the smell of something burnt. I am a bit hyper, and when I am sewing something that is boring (like strip binding), or making intricate blocks, I set goals. Like, "I am going to sew this for 15 minutes before I take a coffee break), It keeps me on task. I cannot seem to sit for any length of time, so I sew, I compute, make a few business calls, type a few letters, go down stairs and dust a bit, take the dogs for a walk, straighten out some fabric, go through some boxes in that attic that haven't been opened since we moved here (7 years ago). Garden a bit, put a cake together, all by lunch time.

mooshie 03-24-2013 03:24 PM

I don't have a clock in my sewing studio, but if I need to do something besides sew at a specific time I just set myself a timer on my phone. Otherwise when I'm in there I figure if I've found time to be in there I don't need to worry about how long I'm in there. I do, however, need to take breaks occasionally so I look at a clock when I come out to get a snack or use the potty. And if I don't have anything I need to do besides make dinner I set a timer for that as well. Though I have been thinking it'd be fun to have a Dresden plate clock in there! So maybe one day I will have one?

ube quilting 03-24-2013 03:29 PM

My clock says 'what ever' and all the numbers are laying at the bottom of the clock. I have several clocks in all my rooms and almost never look at them for the time. I keep a vintage Baby Ben by my DHM so when I only have a limited amount of time to sew I set the alarm so I can stay on schedule.

Today I was in my studio from 7:00am till 6:00pm.
peace

Yakkity 03-24-2013 03:37 PM

I have a clock in my sewing room but it is behind me and I can ignore it as long as I want.
I have to " really" want to look to find out the time. I find out that most of the time I don't really give a darn what the time is.

Yep, this is me, too!! Especially the wee hours bit!

I actually really like clockworks and clocks for some reason. I don't feel particularly ruled by them (although in reality I very much am, LOL) I have clocks in every room (multiples in many rooms). I just think they're neat for some reason.

sewbeadit 03-24-2013 03:46 PM

I have a clock. I look at it, but my back and shoulders tell me when it is time to leave.

Writergrrl 03-24-2013 04:04 PM

I don't have a clock anywhere in my house except for the microwave! Is that weird? My cell phone alarm wakes me up in the morning. While sewing, I also use my cell phone to keep an eye on the time, but I like to lose myself. That's the fun and relaxation for me. Sewing is my time.

LynnVT 03-24-2013 04:12 PM

I sew in the living room, where the TV cable box has a clock, and in the kitchen where there is a clock on the wall. But I also have a tiny clock on my wrist - called a WATCH. Guess nobody else wears them. LOL. My body and my hubby also tell me when it's time to eat, or walk, or do something else.

Lisa Marie 03-24-2013 04:45 PM

I have a clock on my sewing machince and only look at it when I start getting tired and by then it is usually time to quit.

BellaBoo 03-24-2013 04:51 PM

I have a clock because it's pretty and when I saw it I knew I had to have it for my sewing room.

kathyd 03-24-2013 06:07 PM

I have a clock in my sewing room. I have been known to not change it when the time changes! But truthfully I never sit for very long anyway. Aches get me moving out of my chair or away from the cutting mat.
