Tips for 1/4" seam allowance - PART 2 WITH PICS

I realize now I didn't make myself clear on the tip I posted a couple of days ago.........I'm sorry -- I forgot about visuals! Here is the original post: http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...e-t211375.html

Picture 1 is how I used to put my seams together. Works fine for most projects but if you're sewing strips, you may end up with a seam like picture #2 (sorry for blurry). If you move the top fabric over to the left a FRACTION, you will end up with nice seams.
This hint has NOTHING to do with where the needle position is located, nor with what foot you use. I have all kinds of feet and I have measured, etc. I would start out just fine, finish the seam, turn it over and have the bottom fabric off kilter because it "walked".

I hope this makes it clearer! ( oh --- and I have a nail appt for next week...LOL )

I knew exactly what you meant in your previous post but as they say "A picture is worth a thousand words"

I've been doing this lately for exactly the same reasons, but felt it was CHEATING! Thought the edges had to be perfectly aligned, but this just worked better. So glad to know it's quilt board approved. :)

I have always guided my fabric with a stiletto. The point keeps the 2 pieces aligned. This idea does give a good visual indication that you are on target, however.

I appreciated your first & this post and thought of it as a sewed today. Thank's for the great hint!

I also want to thank you for the original post and this one. I'm just about done piecing my very first quilt and the tip has preserved my sanity (and helped keep my seams lined up).
