Here are two quilts that used FQs - of course there is more yardage required for both. Scroll down - the first is a Krazy Quilt - I had yardage for the border and used FQs for the blocks. The Woven Ribbons comes from a book on FQs - I have the name on the photo and all the patterns in that book use FQs.

And, of course, scrappy strip quilts are always great.

You could do some tube quilt patterns ... they call for WOF but something like my avatar quilt, it doesn't matter if it is WOF or just part of the width! And too, you could strip the FQ, join them back up to make the WOF.

Look at them for high contrast,like light/dark, yellow/navy. go from there

I understand exactly what you mean. When I first was buying them when I'd hit a sale, I'd just buy what caught my eye and not paying attention to what went together. So I was in the same boat.

What I did was cut them all up into squares and strips and made scrappy quilts. I still have a few that I really like but can't figure out what it goes with so, I just decorate with them.. a nice basket with pretty fat quarters is very pretty.

I have the same problem. What I did is sort them so they go together. I have 1930, civil war, primary colors, kids prints, home decor, batik, etc. I make quilts and then add a border and or back by buying more fabric if need be. also at times I skip borders and just make the blocks go to the edge and then bind. FQ are great for scrappy quilts. If you can not make them work maybe offer to trade on the board and get some FQ or yardage of what you need.

Great! Next you are going to tell me that there will never be a chance of being too skinny or too rich. I understand that the chances are so slim as to be impossible, but there is a bigger chance of these happening than of having too many fat quarters.

I would (and have) cut them up into various sizes for scrap quilts.

I'm hooked on Eleanor Burns' Quick Quarter quilts. The queen size takes 26 different fat quarters. And it's quick and easy to make. I never was much of a fat quarter buyer till I got that book. It's called Quick Trip Quilts.

I have books from the library that use jelly rolls. There's no reason you can't cut the FQs in 2 1/2" strips. Most of the patterns cut up the strips, anyhow.
