I just sent Patrice some that looks like one of my chickens had diarrhea and it splattered on a pumpkin!!!
She's going to make a quilt from ugly fabric and it will hopefully be not so ugly! Anyway if you have a piece of something you think is UGLY lets see what she can do with it.

lin 09-05-2007 12:52 PM

Well Kathy, I was enjoying my snack.

I sent mine to her already. She actually liked one of them! LOL Ah well, one man's trash is another man's treasure. But yours sounds like something that should be IN the trash! ROFL I hope she gets lots of these uglies.

Kathy, I hope the pumpkin it splattered on was rotten bc I like the orange kind.
I had a piece of green fabric with horseshoes on it that I hated. I went to a rodeo, now I want to make something from it to remind me of the rodeo.

kathy 09-06-2007 03:18 AM

ROFLMAO, Lin, sorry, but that is a very good discription of it!

Country Quilter 09-06-2007 03:38 AM

Mine is in the mail too....when my hubby asked me what it was for and I told him...he said he didn't think it was that ugly! LOL Well, I did! I've had it for about 5 years and could never find a place to use it! Can't wait to see what she does with all this "ugly" fabric!!

lin 09-06-2007 03:50 AM

You're on the spot now Patrice. Our expectations for this "ugly" quilt just keep getting higher and higher!!

Moonpi 09-06-2007 07:18 AM

Sure, a little poop and punkin goo and you run. Ladies, does it come close to demented Elvises or art deco jungle cat chasing goat and goose/swan running away? I have GOT to see this quilt when its-'s done.

Either it will be stunning, or one of those “so ugly, it’s kinda cute” surprises

Country Quilter 09-06-2007 07:27 AM

I almost sent her my Elvis FQ but then I remembered my sister wanted me to make her something out of it! LOL

This kind of reminds me of the challenges Alex Anderson use to have on her show...

Moonpi 09-06-2007 03:11 PM

See Patrice? I warned you! Elvis sneaks out at night to party. You need to cut him up to stop him!

I just have to ask, Kathy, forgive me. Did you PAY for this ugly sounding fabric or did someone hate you enough to gift it to you???

kathy 09-07-2007 05:46 AM

Oh Sharon, the only one who would play a mean trick like that would be<whisper Patrice> I think it must have come in a bundle of batiks because there were 3 really ugly pieces but they are bigger than a fat so they must have disguised them with some pretty ones! I had a piece of corduroy that looked like it had been used for a grease rag!

Norah 09-07-2007 09:34 AM

This could be a fun Round Robin. Send someone who wants to play a piece of ugly fabric to start a quilt with, send to the next person on the want to list for the next step and so on until it is done.

you want more?

Catherine 09-08-2007 10:49 AM

this is similiar to what we are doing in our Quilting Guild.

patricej 09-09-2007 05:50 AM

so far my mailbox has thrown up moonpi's, lin's and patsy's. the rotten pumpkins must've smelled so bad the postman threw them away.

Moonpi 09-09-2007 07:06 AM

I would be interested in seeing a "before" picture once you gather up all your ugly contestants. That way, when they are put together, we can tell how far you've had to stretch your imagination. Any patterns in mind yet, or are you still learning to control your gag reflex?

patricej 09-09-2007 08:10 AM

i have to come up with more than one, i think. you alone sent me enough for a few. LOL

i have one or two things in mind. 8)

patricej 09-12-2007 01:21 AM

my mailbox was looking pretty sick to its stomach when i got home yesterday. sure enough, it had ralphed all over my son when he checked the mail. apparently, kathy shops with her eyes closed.

she claims she can't remember why she bought them, but i noticed one had been cut into, so she must have at least one really embarrassing block or top squirreled away in secret somewhere.

kathy 09-12-2007 03:06 AM

I think I cut a piece of it for moss or coral in my goldfish quilt.

ButtercreamCakeArtist 09-12-2007 05:18 PM

oh, sure you did, Kathy! LOL~

cynde 09-12-2007 07:34 PM

Patrice, is it too late for me to add my ugly fabric to your project? If not, let me know your address and I will gladly send some.

pojeda 09-12-2007 10:36 PM

Patrice, do you need anymore ugly, disgusting, why the h*ll did I buy that for fabric? I would be glad to throw away, oops, I mean send some to you. send me your address via email @ [email protected]. I would be glad to contribute to the cause!

Patty

patricej 09-13-2007 12:36 AM

yes!!! thanks!!! i can't wait. :-)

i have one more "must do" project to complete then i can turn my attention to the ideas i'm getting from the contributions. after i create and photograph them, the are-you-sure-now-it-was-ugly? quilts will go to charity. :-)

kathy 09-13-2007 03:06 AM

Kathy, thank you for commenting on my avatar! I wish I made this quilt!!! Whenever I surf the net and find a picture of a quilt I want to try and make (or one like it!) I save the picture and file it under "Quilts I want to make" folder. Of course, I have lots of pictures in that folder!  I will try and post the picture of that quilt here so you can see the whole thing and be inspired!

Patty

cynde 09-13-2007 10:36 AM

Thanks for posting those pictures, they look exactly like the design I have come up with for my sil's wedding gift, except I am going to put a mariners compass in the centre since her and her fiance both work for the coast guard.

pojeda 09-13-2007 10:40 AM

You are so welcome!

kingskidaz 09-14-2007 12:53 AM

Beautiful quilt, I would love to make on like it someday. also is it still to late to send ugly fabric to you? Deb

kathy 09-14-2007 03:16 AM

not too late, send Patrice a PM and she'll tell you were to send the ugly stuff!

tlcquiltnut 10-29-2007 04:47 PM

Oh, ladies I have just joined this forum and have been reading this and you are oh so funny. I bet if I look there is some pumkin goo fabric somewhere in my stash too. tlcqultnut

patricej 10-29-2007 05:02 PM

i'll take it!!!

quiltnana 11-06-2007 03:59 PM

kathy it's amazing what a fabric shop can get rid of if it's bundled with some cute fabric......I have a few cow pie fabrics if you need them...lol

patricej 11-12-2007 01:25 PM

i'll take anything ugly ;-)

kathy 11-13-2007 04:18 AM

with my chicken poop and your cow patties and no telling what else she's gotten, that should be a really interesting quilt!
maybe when it's done we can have a drawing to name it. we'll have to be careful with the name or we may not be able to find a charity to take it!

imaquilter 02-19-2008 03:05 PM

What was the outcome with all the ugly fabric you received Patrice?

Steve 02-19-2008 11:00 PM

Harumpf, and I go out of my way to find Batiks that look like that!

kathy 02-20-2008 04:47 AM

oh Steve, please tell me you have better taste! I absolutely love batiks but that stuff was just awful!
I think the quilt is still in the planning stage, there were a few "gotta get dones" ahead of it.
I'm sure there's room for more if anybody wants to contribute to it.

Steve 02-20-2008 10:27 AM

A before and after picture would be cool. And an ugly fabric contest would be a total hoot, though don't know if I have it in me to go looking for such stuff just to enter.

I'm currently piling up a gift package for a lady at work who wants to learn to quilt (imagine someone asking me to teach them to quilt!). It would be so easy to pass off some disagreeable fabric to her, but the idea is to encourage her so I haven’t the heart. There is a piece some gal gave me (no, not you Leslee, or you either mom) that is so cheap it makes sackcloth look extravagant. The pattern isn't too horrid, but the quality is the absolute very bottom of the barrel. I keep thinking to run it through the wash and see if, with loss of sizing, it could possibly soften up and prove half decent; I just feel sorry for the machine.

patricej 02-20-2008 04:18 PM

the point isn't to deliberately shop for something ugly. many of us have laughed at ourselves because we've gone through our stashes and discovered things that made us wonder what we were smokin' when we bought them in the first place. or struggled to remain straight-faced and gracious when a well-meaning friend gives us something they just know we'll love but we think is beyond hideous.

and yet ... we can't bring ourselves to throw it out. so ... sooner or later ... something must be done with it. before we die. so our heirs or archaeologists will never discover the truth.
