I'm making my grandson a double fleece tied throw. I would like to trace the college logo on it and stitch around it and do some cut out work so the color of the back fleece shows through. But I haven't figured out how to get the pattern on the fleece. Any ideas? Has anyone else tried anything like this? I can't seem to go with just the regular fleece throw.

why not put the design on tearaway or washaway stabilizer then stitch thru it onto the fleece..perhaps use spray basting to hold it in place for stitching. You'd progably need some stabilizer anyway because of the stretch nature of the fleece. Ricky Tims has a stabilizer that can be left in and when washed it turns very soft...it's precut into 8.5 x 11 inch sheets that can be put thru a printer to print out a design.

or draw it on freezer paper and iron onto the fleece and then stitch around it. something will work.

Go to office supply, Purchase full sheet label paper.
Put the copy paper in the machine so that the image is on the top of the label.Pint the logo, trim is needed.
Place your design on the front side of your fleece and sew away. You can sew through the paper.
Be sure to put stablizer on the back of the area you are outlining or appliqueing,.,...your work will show up better rather than getting buried in the fleece.
I use full sheet label paper for applique, no pins, fusing, no glue...works great.
I don't like ironing fleece....I have left my iron impressions on alot of different fabric...fleece is the worst. I found this sticky label is easy to pull off.

do you have any problem getting the paper off the fleece? or do you get little snippets of paper left? I like the sticky part also. My pattern is really large, may take 'several' sheets of paper. Do you just use a straight stitch or tiny zig-zag?

I use a pounce pad with a stencil. The chalk I use will not come off unless it is ironed off with a dry iron.

Put a cotton cloth over the fleece when Ironing and it will not hurt the fleece I just did this.

Use Press and Seal. Draw your pattern on it, press it down onto your fabric, then stitch around the pattern. The press and seal should tear away fine when you are finished.

with tear=away you may have problems with tiny pieces of paper, that's why wash away stabilizer is good. You need to use a zig zag, even a satin stitch or else the stitch line will disappear into the fleece and all your work will go to waste. try out some satin stitches on scrap fleece with stabilizer so you're comfortable with how it will work before you start on your blanket.

I barely press the label sheet on the fabric. It sticks well.
I use a long stitch with a washaway stabilizer on the back.
Some sewists use a zigzag. Your choice.
Depending you your design detail, I cut apart the design like a puzzle if it is a simple design and stitch around the edge, not catching the paper. Detail designs do not show up well on fleece.
If you are outling then cutting out the design so the back fleece color shows through, I would use the school mascot and not an super detailed logo. If you are doing simple letters for the university, then stitching around the label paper would work best.

Missouri State in Springfield has a bear head as the logo. I've got it blown up to about three foot across to cover the top half of the fleece. I've bought two yards of both colors and will cut the strips around the edge about 6". I'm not tying but doing it a little different that I seen on youtube. Makes a smoother finished edge.

The logo will have like an outline of the back color showing through. I agree with you that either a ziz-zag or I was thinking of the straight stitch that goes back and forth several times, in the same spot, but a wider zig may be what I need so it doesn't get lost, as you said. I am going to try on a sample first. But I'm working to finish another project for my granddaughter right now.

I've been pretty sick and my hubby has been in the hospital, so I'm still finishing up Christmas. Gave the kids IOU's, we just sorta lost Christmas this year. Hopefully 2011 will be a better year.

I do thank you all for all the info you have sent my way. We got a laptop and I seem to spend more time on this site now, just sitting in my chair and reading all your tips .
