My friend( a quilter) going on a trip to Aurora , IL and doesnt know the area. She would like to go 10miles outside this area. Any suggestions on quilting stores.

There's a thread about shops near Lisle IL-see it you can find it. Some names: Fabrics 2 Etc, A Touch of Amish, Pieceful Hearts, Quilter's Heaven, Quilter's Destination. These might be too far from Aurora for your plans.

I live in the Aurora area and there are several stores that are just awesome...there is one in downtown Oswego (next town over from Aurora) called Prairie Stitches (630)554-9701, one in Batavia (about 15 minutes from downtown Aurora) call Prairie Shoppe Quilts on Randall Road (630)406-0237, one in Lisle (20 minutes east of Aurora) called Pieceful Hearts on Chicago Ave. and then there is one in Sycamore (about 40 minutes west of Aurora) called Tammy Tadds...this shop has been in several quilt magazines and is really a neat store to visit. I vote for all of the above plus I would add Quilt Fabrics, 75th street/Rte 83 off of Interstate 55, in Willowbrook if she really likes batiks. Which is probably 40 minutes away but has the best selection of batiks in Chicagoland, IMHO. In Chicagoland, we measure travel in time not miles....my sister lives near Aurora and I am 53 miles away but it can take up to two hours to get to my house.

I really dont think Aurora has a quilt shop. You cant go across the town of Aurora in 10 miles. Aurora and Naperville are like Scottsdale and Mesa. They have a combined population of probably 300,000 people and are a major corporate hub.

I agree...for batiks you have to go to the store in Willowbrook on 75th Street and Rt 83. Aurora does not have a quilt shop, but the ones I listed are not that far from downtown Aurora. I am 5 minutes from downtown Aurora and go to all of the ones I listed quite often.

I'm hoping to get to Tammy Tadd's this next week...I never in the area when she is open. I'm only there at odd times of day, not her fault.

Also in Morris IL (probably about 30-40 min from Aurora) is The Fabric Center on Liberty St. They're closed on Sunday, so go M-S.

Tell her to take Route 25 which is the main street in downtown Aurora & go South to OSWEGO, about 5 miles.. She will go thru another tiny town called Montgomery.Keep going south. Turn Right off Rt25 at the 5 corner stop light in Oswego, turn right at the library. This street is between the library & a garden shop. It's a little street & you can only curve left in front of the library. This is Main Street in Oswego. About 2 little blocks down on the left is a quilt shop which just won some USA award for being a great shop & is going to be on a USA tour of quilters. It's 2 miles from my house in I've never been in it!LOL. The name of it is PRAIRIE QUILTERS.
Lisle is pretty far from Aurora & lots of traffic.
Depending on what area of Naperville, it's not far but I don't go to any shops there. Naperville would take anywhere from 30 mins to over 1 hr due to traffic.
The one in Batavia is not too bad to get to. It's on Randall Rd. Right side of the road from aurora. You would be going North from Aurora, then thru North Aurora, & the next town is Batavia. That's where it is.
