for internet acronyms and general web slang, try http://www.internetslang.com/default.asp
for quilting acronyms try http://quiltinggallery.com/2009/04/2...ters-acronyms/
for several previous threads on this subject, enter "acronyms" in the forum search function up at the top of the screen...lots of others have asked the same question proving it is not a dumb question! :D

When you been away from sewing for so long and never connected sewing, quilting and the computers.. wow a whole new world!! I mean heck.. what do I need a Jelly Roll for to make a quilt. I am fat enough..

wvdek 12-04-2009 05:42 AM

Ghostrider, thanks for the links. I've bookmarked both so I don't have to sit puzzling over ones new to me.

Thanks for asking, Fritzy! I did not know a lot of these.

BYB = Be Right Back

That's an important one for when you are in the Chat room and need to use the bathroom, answer the phone, or grab something to eat/drink from the kitchen.

Nope, LOL is Laugh Out Loud. :lol: It isn't always used appropriately, just because sometimes I read it and think "Really, your laughing out loud on that one?" but there isn't a way to just put Laughing.

ROFLMBO - Roll on floor laughing my butt off. - You'll also see ROFLMAO, but a lot of us use butt instead of the a-word.

I have a cute story. For years whenever my sister (Judy) sent her two kids e-mails she ended them with LOL thinking it meant "lots of love". When her son (Nick) enlisted in the navy he conferred with his sister (Jennifer) about who should tell Judy what it really meant. Neither one of them wanted to be the heavy so they let it be. Then Judy e-mailed Nicholas when he was deployed on a sub to tell him his grandmother had died and of course ended with LOL. It didn't take too long after that before Jennifer told Judy what LOL really meant!
