The natural disasters that have occurred in Japan reminded me of the second original quilt design I ever made: the “Tsunami”. I had intended on making it in red on a black background, but never got around to finishing it. The idea of doing it in blues to create a variegated effect occurred to me during my last trip to a quilt shop and had picked out a few blue batiks because I wanted to do “something in blue” for a quilt.
I'm not sure if the varigated idea translates well with these design images. It kind of helps if you step back and look at it. Maybe it just needs to be made into an actual quilt to get the full effect? I ended up making two blue color variations: one in a true blue and the other a more turquoise-ish. I’m kind of conflicted on the fabric choices. I had first thought of doing the blues with watercolor/marble blenders to keep with the water theme, but I already have 3 projects in mind either involving mottled fabrics or some sort of blender fabrics. So I was thinking of maybe stepping outside the box and finding some regular batiks to work with. But then I’m thinking they might not tie in as well with the water aspect I had in mind. |
I really like the way the second one sparkles :D:D:D

Those are really cool designs, I can't wait to see what ya go with!

They are both beautiful. I think the darker one is more calming, but Amma is right about the second one.
I wouldn't want to choose between them! |
cool design!

They are both so cool looking. Can't wait to see the real thing.

WOW for both quilts. They are amazing, so lovely

i prefer the turquoise also...seems more "watery" to me
and is incomplete opposition to "tsunami" as i think of quiet mediterranean waters... of course it could just be that being native american i prefer turquoise lol |
Very lovely pattern, I was immediately hooked on the turquoise.
