Go for it. Make your space work for you! I am turning our dining room into my sewing room since we only use it a few times a year. We own a condo and there is not much wiggle room unless I share the office with my SO - we tried and it did not work that great for us. Happy quilting!! Meghan
You will not regret it! I am a widow, I did just that. We lived in a large home for 32 years that we builded to our liking then we moved 8 years ago and down sized. I sure did miss my craft/sewing room so for 7 years I endured with out my own space. Then DH passed away so as much as I miss him after 45 years of marriage I decided I would make me a fun room for my sewing and crafts. We still have a informal living room so now I am very happy with my own "play room". Good Luck!!

When I retired, I bought a new kitchen table and put it in front of the living room window then I placed one of my sewing machines on the table. It is my favorite place to sew because the light is great and I can watch the comings and goings in my neighborhood. I added a loveseat to the room for guests. I also live by myself and appreciate having the house set up to please me.

I'm single, have done that and am DELIGHTED with it!
My productivity is way up. My accessibility if SO much better. There is more wall space for wallhangings.
In the new "living area" I have one recliner, one floor lamp, a chairside table, the TV, and my vintage secretary.
I tell people that if they want to visit me, they best be prepared to sit on a rolling chair at the sewing table! My buds, who actually visit infrequently, want to come here to quilt now.
I had my landlord install two 4 foot florescent lights in the ceiling -- $20 each from Lowes, great light now.
Couldn't be happier with my set up.

I did this years ago and have not regreted it for a minute......bay window in the sewing room = lots of light and larger room means when DD/friends come over to sew we have S P A C E !!
DH and I both share a love of quilting and quilting machines. Go for it! Our " living room" has 4 machines in tables. Two are working treadles and one is a work in progress. Eight more machines share the floor space and 3 featherweights are on display in a glass hutch. My " formal" dining room table is for laying out and planning blocks unless we are working on a big project downstairs. We sew and display machines in every room in the house except the kitchen, bathrooms and our bedroom. Downstairs we have a studio for the long arm, a spare bedroom that stores thread and fabric and a huge room with a large cutting table. Don't have much company so we live the way we choose!!!

I agree! I live alone as well, and my living room is my sewing room. As the others said it is so convenient and is so much more pleasant. If anyone pops over they see whatever I'm in the middle of, if I invite people over it takes less time to clean the table once, than to clean it every night.
my living-room is part of a big L-shaped finished basement. The quilt studio is the smaller part of the 'L' so I'm always near my dh - he never complains about the 'hum' from my sewing machines but prefers it when I use one of my Featherweights - they're so quiet!
