Twister quilt
 

I would like to make a queen size twister quilt. Am unsure as to what size to make the blocks. Would using the lil twister make the quiltllok too busy?

i would think the little twister would be a bit small personaly but its realy all about what you like. maybe you can use them in a border and use the big ones as the center?

I think that i would use the larger twister with the 10"blocks. The little one would take too long. JMHO

I think I would go with the larger one. you do lose size as you recut the blocks, it would take an awful lot to make a queen size top with the smaller squae.

Has anyone seen the twister ruler at Joann's? I keep looking, I saw one that could be something similiar with the offset lines in the center but it didn't stay twister on the label.

I don't like to order online unless I can't find it locally.

I haven't seen one at joanns(and I'm there a lot). I ended up ordering mine. I have seen them at sewing/quilts shows, same price.

if you examine the template for the twister, you can see that the black lines are a certain measurement away from the corner. using that as an example, you can cut a plexiglass template whatever size you want and decide what proportion you want the twist to be. for example, if the black line is 2" off the corner on one of the sizes and you want to make a larger size block, you may opt to have the black line be 3" or even 4" off the corner, experiment with paper and when you have the proportion you like, mark your template with tape and follow the tape lines. for a queen bed, definitely think larger since you lose so much in size when you sew.

I double that Joann's will carry the Twister Tools. I am pretty sure the makers of both the larger sized Twister Tools want everyone to come to them for the rulers if they can't be found at your LQS. It would be be wonderful if they carried spring action nippers and small scissors. I have noticed that any fabric shop that utilizes and accepts coupons doesn't carry the finer quilting items.

I "live" at Joann's, have been looking and have not found it either.

if you have a twister template, take it to staples and enlarge it on the printer to the size you want it to be. remember to make it larger than you want the finished block to be. then just cut a template from template plastic or acrylic or whatever they sell at cosco.
