Two color binding

I hope I can explain this so everyone knows what I am trying to say, I know what I am looking for but am not sure I can put it into words so everyone else knows.

I want to make a binding so that the binding fabric on the front is scrappy (I know how to do this part) and the fabric on the back side is solid. My question is how do you achieve this look, if I remember correctly you just sew the two strips together but what size should the width of each be?

I hope this is more clear than mud.

I usually cut my bindings at 2", and sew using a 1/4" seam allowance, so when I'm doing two colored bindings I cut the two strips at 7/8" and 1-3/4",

When the strips are sewn together, you get a binding strip width of 2".

The smaller side would be for the front binding - if you do it the traditional way where you attach the binding to the front and turn to the back for handstitching.

If you want it a bit wider, add the same amount to both strips - like 1" and 1-7/8", and adjust the seam allowance you use to sew the binding to the quilt top to 3/8".

Always helps to cut some scraps to test first.

Here's the tutorial for a flanged binding. I think it might be pretty hard to get the seam and the fold to line up.

Look at byannie.com. Then go to tutorials, scroll to bottom for tips, then 2 sided binding. I have used this many times
