Do any of you all have information about quilting camps? I think I could use some serious help and now that I've retired, I have time. I'm near the Cambridge/Salem/Hoosick NY area and can travel to Albany since I'm on my own if there is nothing closer.
Thank you, ladies. Brett |

not exactly nearby, but rave reviews from anyone I know who has attended. But what do you mean by "help?" Do you want one-on-one assistance? The group dynamic? Getting out of the house? Have you spoken to the LQS? Maybe they can hook you up with someone who would do private lessons on WHAT you need, not some canned class. Here's one closer: http://www.adirondackquiltcamp.com/ http://www.fiberartworkshops.com/ Also, you're coming up on the season for all the quilt shows in the NE. Have car will travel. You've got everything from small guild shows in CT to larger regional shows. They all offer shows, in addition to the eye-candy of a quilt show and vendors. I'll get you some quick links. http://www.vqf.org/ http://www.lowellquiltfestival.org/ http://www.mainequilts.org/Quilt_Show/index.html http://www.quilters-resource.com/qui...nnecticut.html That's a start. You'll have to do the rest of the legwork. ;-) Enjoy!!! |
Quilting by the Lake is the biggest I know of. There is also a quilt retreat at Wiawaka, on Lake George, www.wiawaka.org.
Log Cabin Fabrics in Ravena has a quilting weekend several times a year at Round Top, in Greene County. Her website is www.logcabinfabrics.net. The info for the web is outdated, but I'm pretty sure there are new weekends planned for 2011. You might have luck going through a quilt guild. There are a couple of active groups near you, the Wings Falls Quilters, and further down in Rensselaer County the East Side Quilters - I know they just had a retreat. Good luck, and if you go, have lots of fun. Janet |
A retreat sounds lovely... lol!

I think the Adirondack quilt camp closed a couple of years ago.
Log Cabin Fabrics in Ravena is Londa Van Derzee's business - she is a wonderful person and a great quilter. You'd have a great time with her. If there are Guilds nearby, check with them. One of my guilds sponsors one off-season at a ski resort. I began going to QBL in the 80's - went for 20+ years - it's a fabulous experience. Used to be in Cazanovia and then in Morrisville. Marty sold it a couple of years ago and it moved again to Onondaga CC in Syracuse. It's gotten way too expensive for me now If you can afford it, it's well worth giving yourself a treat; if only for a once in a lifetime experience. |
Here's another quilt retreat in the Berkshires: http://www.berkshirequilts.com/

Do you want one-on-one assistance? The group dynamic? Getting out of the house? In answer to these questions - all of the above. |

I don't know what level you think you are, but find something interesting. You'll meet other people. And I guarantee you there will be other women in the same situation as you. Does your LQS, or one nearby, have a free day of sewing when they open up their classroom? Take advantage of it. Now you might have found a carpool to a quilt show. And it grows from there. Heck, you'll probably be going to Houston in November.  http://quilts.com/newHome/shows/index.php |
Thanks so much for your direction, MTS! I'm new at this, so truly do need all the help I can get. On to Houston, LOL!!
Love the NY Ladies, too - so many here, I feel like I shoudl add them to my buddy list. :-P |
