use flannel for backing?

Will it work for me to back a large quilt with flannel if the top is all pieced cotton?

Should work fine. I do it all the time, especially on quilts for kids. I would advise prewashing, for sue, because flannel shrinks a lot.

I do it all the time. Just remember, it will make it heavier.

I love using flannel as a backing.. It shrinks an aweful lot..

I use flannel whenever I can for baby quilts..it is so much softer!! I even bring the back around to the front to create the binding and they have all worked out well

I haven't used flannel for the backing --- yet. From what I know about flannel, you may want to wash it a couple of times in warm water and dry it in the dryer. More than likely if you give it to someone they will do that.

I am so glad that you asked this - I was wondering the same today for a couple of kid's quilts I just pieced. Saw some really cute flannels at Hobby Lobby. I usually don't pre-wash but thought if I didn't with the flannel that the shrinkage could be more than I like. Good to hear these "endorsements."

It makes for a warm and cozy quilt for sure.
