I've acquired some spools of silk thread through auctions, garage sales etc. but don't really know what to use it for. Does anyone have any ideas?

It is also supposed to be awesome for wholecloth quilting, but I have never had an opportunity to use it.

Hand Applique, I am still looking for silk thread as I wanting to learn to hand applique and they say it is great thread to use.

The YLI Silk Thread in the light gray they say works great for hand applique and only need 1 color!

There are many different silk threads available here and I know many embroiderers use them. I would love to try it for hand quilting but I would choose a silk thread that is not too thin so the quilting stitches can be seen clearly.

I love silk thread for hand applique - it is nearly invisible if you use the right color. Haven't tried it for machine quilting yet but hope to do so soon.

Use for applique...

i use my silks for hand applique, piecing, embroidery and quilting. silk thread is wonderful to work with...a couple tips though:
first- use the recommended 18-24" of thread at a time...longer and it will start fraying/tangling before you use it up. second...use a fine needle i use #12 sharps. use your threads for what ever you want to use them for, the colors work for...no reason to 'sweat the small stuff'
i do 'save' my silks for special projects due to the cost but if i can find the right color always for hand applique...it is a very fine, strong thread

I use it for hand applique as it seems to disappear. someone told me that it's great for machine applique but due to cost I haven't tried that, I prefer to do it by hand anyway. I pay $6.00 for a small spool, forgot how many yards.
